ST. LOUIS -- Creighton advanced to the semifinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on a controversial last-second basket after the clock appeared to start late. Multiple reviews of the play showed officials got the play right, the conference commissioner said Saturday.
Booker Woodfox's basket at the buzzer gave the Bluejays a 63-62 victory over Wichita State. Commissioner Doug Elgin said there were no clock issues, although he also had wondered why the time passed so slowly while watching from press row.
After reviewing the play 30 times, Elgin said the clock started on time given the relay from the referee's signal to the scorer's table.
Wichita State was celebrating an apparent upset after the ball went out of bounds when officials, after viewing replays, put 1.9 seconds on the clock.
